Origin

Banko Ware

Banko Ware, originating from Yokkaichi in Mie Prefecture, holds 80-90% of Japan’s earthenware pot market. Its high fire resistance comes from petalite, a lithium-rich mineral in the clay, making it exceptionally durable. This allows safe use with microwaves, charcoal fires, and open flames. Banko Ware is particularly renowned for donabe (earthenware pots) and teapots, with the latter enhancing tea flavor due to its iron-rich clay and reduction firing process.
