Tsugaru Kanayama Pottery
Tsugaru Kanayama Pottery is based in Aomori Prefecture, in the northern part of Japan, where rich natural clay is abundant.
Their work is deeply influenced by Sueki (Sue ware), an ancient form of unglazed pottery from the Kofun era (around 300 AD) through the Heian era (until 1185 AD). Tsugaru Kanayama Pottery has beautifully rediscovered and preserved this technique in their region.
Known for its unique deep texture and earthy beauty, their pottery is carefully fired in a wood-fired kiln at a high temperature of 1350°C.
